OSTMED.DR® An index to the literature of Osteopathic Medicine, providing full citations and abstracts to literature published by or for the Osteopathic profession, as well as from relevant selected journals. OSTMED.DR® builds on the OSTMED database. Available to the public

MEDLINE (Ovid) Premier source for bibliographic and abstract coverage of the biomedical literature. Includes some full-text. (1996 to most current week)

PubMed (NLM) PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine, provides access to over 11 million MEDLINE citations back to the mid-1960's and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources. Click HERE to run a Medline search on Pubmed for articles from the last 5 years where "Osteopathic Medicine" is a major topic. Click the Findit button to see if UMDNJ has the article available online.

Osteopathic Medicine Search Strategies Created by the librarians at University of Texas Health Science Center Library, this page give strategies for searching CINHAL, PubMed and MEDLINE (Ovid) (see above for links) as well as access to OstBib, a bibliography from 1950 till today with monthly updates. Articles indexed in MEDLINE or OSTMED are not included in OstBib. (REMINDER: the locations listed in OstBib are for the University of Texas Health Science Center Library.)

Cochrane Library includes the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews -- Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials -- Cochrane Database of Methodology Reviews -- Cochrane Methodology Register -- Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects -- Health Technology Assessment Database -- NHS Economic Evaluation Database.search simultaneously ACP Journal Club, Cochrane Controlled Trials Register, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects.

DynaMed is a medical reference system that uses an evidence-based approach. It is a full-text product that offers clinically organized disease summaries for almost 1800 topics. The product was created by a physician and designed for physicians to use as a clinical reference tool at the point of care.

FIRSTConsult is an evidence-based electronic primary care clinical information system providing specialized diagnostic tools and continuously updated thinking on the latest in evaluation and diagnosis, management options, patient outcomes and prevention at the point and time of a clinical encounter

Essential Evidence PLUS (formerly InfoRetriever) is a source of evidence-based information for clinicians. It includes: a POEMS (Patient Oriented Evidence that Matters) library (click the Findit button to see if UMDNJ has the full article available online); Cochrane Database abstracts; collections of clinical decision rules, diagnostic tests, history and physical exam maneuvers; and drug information, as well as ICD9 and E/M coding assistants.

Important Conferences

AAO Annual Convocation Annual educational meeting sponsored by the American Academy of Osteopathy.

American Osteopathic Association Convention Largest national convention and scientific seminar. On the home page of the web site look at the left hand side menu for a link to the convention.

American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Annual Meeting is held every spring in Baltimore. Other programs and events of AACOM can be found here.

American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO) The mission of the American Academy of Osteopathy is to teach, advocate, and research the science, art and philosophy of osteopathic medicine, emphasizing the integration of osteopathic principles, practice and manipulative treatment in patient care. A listing of Osteopathic Specialty Colleges and Academies is available from DO-Online a web site of the AAO. The majority of professional organizations have web sites.

New Jersey Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (NJOAPS) is the professional medical association for osteopathic physicians in New Jersey. It is the fifth largest state affiliate of the 35,000-member American Osteopathic Association. NJAOPS represents the interests of more than 3,000 active osteopathic physicians, residents, interns, and medical students. Founded in 1901, NJAOPS is one of the largest and most active medical associations in New Jersey with 13 county societies.

Advocates for the American Osteopathic Association (AAOA) The Advocates for the American Osteopathic Association is a charitable organization whose mission is to promote and support osteopathic medicine.

American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) The mission of ACOFP is to promote excellence in osteopathic family medicine through quality education, visionary leadership and responsible advocacy.

American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, founded in 1898, exists to lend support and assistance to all the nation's osteopathic medical schools.

American Osteopathic Association (AOA) The AOA is a member association representing more than 56,000 osteopathic physicians (D.Os) and serves as the primary certifying body for D.Os, and is the accrediting agency for all osteopathic medical colleges and health care facilities. The AOA's mission is to advance the philosophy and practice of osteopathic medicine by promoting excellence in education, research, and the delivery of quality, cost-effective healthcare within a distinct, unified profession.

Still National Osteopathic Museum As the only museum dedicated to the national history of osteopathic medicine, the Still National Osteopathic Museum collects artifacts, photographs, documents, and books that trace the history of the osteopathic profession throughout the United States and the world, preserves these unique resources for present and future visitors and researchers and educates thousands of visitors about the unique legacy of Andrew Taylor Still, M.D., D. o., and the osteopathic profession

For Students-
Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) The purpose of the Student Osteopathic Medical Association, the student affiliate organization of the American Osteopathic Association, is to promote osteopathic ideals and unity within the profession, to educate future osteopathic physicians, and to establish and to maintain lines of communication among healthcare professionals in an ongoing effort to improve the quality of healthcare.

Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents (COSGP) The Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents is composed of the student government presidents of each of the 23 colleges of osteopathic medicine.  These student leaders represent the nearly 8,000 currently enrolled students of osteopathic medicine in the United States.  Each and every osteopathic medical student therefore is a member of COSGP as represented by their student leaders who travel to four annual conferences to collaborate on the issues and concerns of this profession via improved communication and technology, which will further unify all students on a national forum.
