  Selected Databases
  • Cochrane Library: The Cochrane Library contains high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making. It includes reliable evidence from Cochrane and other systematic reviews, clinical trials, and more. Cochrane reviews bring you the combined results of the world's best medical research studies, and are recognised as the gold standard in evidence-based health care. (UMDNJ Community access only)
  • DARE: DARE contains summaries of systematic reviews which have met strict quality criteria. Each summary also provides a critical commentary on the quality of the review. The database covers a broad range of health and social care topics and can be used for answering questions about the effects of interventions, as well as for developing guidelines and policy making. (Available to the Public)
  • DynaMed is a medical reference system that uses an evidence-based approach. It is a full-text product that offers clinically organized disease summaries for almost 1800 topics. The product was created by a physician and designed for physicians to use as a clinical reference tool at the point of care. (UMDNJ Community access only.)
  • FIRSTConsult is an, evidence-based electronic primary care clinical information system providing specialized diagnostic tools and continuously updated thinking on the latest in evaluation and diagnosis, management options, patient outcomes and prevention at the point and time of a clinical encounter (UMDNJ Community access only.)
  • Drugs & Lactation Database (LactMed) - A peer-reviewed and fully referenced database of drugs to which breastfeeding mothers may be exposed. Among the data included are maternal and infant levels of drugs, possible effects on breastfed infants and on lactation, and alternate drugs to consider. (Available to the Public)
  • MDConsult - provides searchable, full-text access to over 50 of the world's most important medical journals, a collection of over 40 reference books, more than 1000 clinical practice guidelines, and almost 3,500 customizable patient education handouts. It also includes full-text drug information. (UMDNJ Community access only.)
  • MEDLINE (Ovid) Premier source for bibliographic and abstract coverage of the biomedical literature. Includes some full-text. (UMDNJ Community access only.)
  • PubMed (NLM) PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine, provides access to over 11 million MEDLINE citations back to the mid-1960's and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources. (Available to the public from this link - PubMed)
  • Health and Wellness Resource Center - A collection of general interest health and fitness magazines, medical and professional periodicals, definitions, and directories. Included are links to diet, cancer, and health assessment sites as well as government databases. Examples of the types of full-text periodicals and scholarly journals found in this database include National Women's Health Report, Women's Health Letter, Contraceptive Technology Update, and many others. (UMDNJ Community access only.)
  • TRIP Database - a resource for evidence-based medicine, allowing users to easily and rapidly identify the highest quality evidence from a wide range of sources. (Available to the Public)

  • CDC on Women's Health - Links to a number of articles on women's health issues from the US Centers for Disease Control.
  • HealthyNJ - Healthcare information for New Jersey consumers, policy makers, and health care professionals. HealthyNJ has extensive information on women's health issues including topics on Breast Cancer, Menopause, Pregnancy, Infertility, Birth Control, Endometiosis, Premenstrual Syndrome, and many others.
  • Doctor's Guide to Menopause Information Resources - The latest medical news and information for patients or friends/parents of patients diagnosed with menopause and menopause-related disorders.
  • 4CollegeWomen - A site dealing with women's health, with a focus especially on health issues facing college-age women. The site is especially strong on information about the following concerns: General Health and Prevention; Tobacco, Alcohol, and Substance Abuse; Reproductive Health; Emotional and Mental Health; Diseases and Conditions; and Safety and Violence-Related Issues.
  • Health Reference Center Academic - A collection of general interest health and fitness magazines, medical and professional periodicals, definitions, and directories. Included are links to diet, cancer, and health assessment sites as well as government databases.   • HealthyWomen - Information on women's health topics and news clips about discoveries in women's health are featured in this web site from the National Women's Health Resource Center.
    • 4girlshealth.gov - A companion site to Womenshealth.gov designed for teenagers and younger women.
  • Information for Women on Food Safety, Nutrition, and Cosmetics- Part of FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition website. Good short collection of reputable web links on a range of women's health topics.

  • Medline Plus-Women's Health Issues - MedlinePlus brings together authoritative information from NLM, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations.
  • National Cancer Institute:Breast Cancer - Includes comprehensive information about the disease including diagnosis, treatment options, clinical trials, and emotional issues. CancerNet, a bibliographic database, provides summaries on cancer treatments, screening, prevention, and supportive care. Much of this site can be viewed in either English or Spanish.
  • NOAH New York Online Access to Helath -Pregnancy - NOAH provides high quality full-text consumer health information in English and Spanish that is accurate, timely, relevant and unbiased.
  • Womenshealth.gov - The National Women's Health Information Center from the US Department of Health and Human Services offers information on hundreds of topics relevant to women and their health and wellbeing.

  • Drugs in Pregnancy and Lactation - PDA version of print publication about drugs that may be used by pregnant and lactating women. (Purchase is Required)
  • DynaMed - "Just-In-Time" Internet reference integrating evidence based medicine with practical information for clinical practice on more than 1,800 clinical topics. Please contact your campus library's information desk to obtain a serial number. (UMDNJ Community access only.)
  • ePocrates - Suite of popular diagnostic, drug and treatment tools for PDAs as well as web-based access
  • eMedicine -eMedicine presents a collection of monographs that cover 65 professional specialties and three consumer areas, complete with full streaming video, audio, and color images suitable for clinical and teaching purposes. It contains a section of Tools, such as Case of the Week.
  • FirstConsult - Web and PDA based clinical information system that provides continuously updated, evidence-based guidance on the latest in patient evaluation, diagnosis, and management. Designed for rapid access at the point of patient care. (UMDNJ Community access only.)

  • American Pregnancy Association - A national health organization committed to resolving reproductive, pregnancy and sexual health concerns through education, research, advocacy and community awareness.
  • Female Genital Diseases and Pregnancy Complications - links pertaining to Female Genital Diseases and Pregnancy Complications from the Karolinska Institute, Sweden.
  • Female Genital Pathology Index - Consists of a series of images demonstrating gross and microscopic pathologic findings for a variety of disease processes. A short description accompanies each image.
  • Hardin MD - Women's Health & Gynecology - Mounted by University of Iowa's Hardin Library for Health Sciences; A good listing of web links arranged in descending order of size, for OB/GYN and Women's Health.

  • OncoLink's Gynecologic Cancers - Comprehensive information about specific types of cancer, updates on cancer treatments and news about research advances. Information updated everyday and provides information at various levels, from introductory to in-depth. (U. Penn Cancer Center)
  • Perinatology.com - Information, resources, and calculators for maternal-fetal medicine specialists.
  • PeriStats - offers state-specific perinatal data, including detailed data for the largest cities and counties in the United States, aggregated from 11 government agencies and organizations.
  • The Virtual Medical Center: Obstetrics, Pediatrics and Gynecology Center - A medical multimedia education and specialized information resource center that includes links to a wide variety of resources including courses, tutorials, cases, teaching files, handbooks, and databases. Part of Martindale's Health Science Guide, developed by Jim Martindale and hosted by University of California, Irvine.
  • Women's Health Initiative (WHI) was a major 15-year research program by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to address the most common causes of death, disability and poor quality of life in postmenopausal women -- cardiovascular disease, cancer, and osteoporosis.
