  Geriatric Databases
  • AgeLine: This publically available database from the AARP abstracts the literature of social gerontology as well as aging-related research from psychology, sociology, social work, economics, public policy, and the health sciences. It covers aging-related issues for professionals in aging services, health, business, law, and mental health. (Available to the Public)
  • CINAHL [Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature]: Provides authoritative coverage of the literature related to nursing and allied health. Includes some full-text. (UMDNJ Community access only)
  • Cochrane Library: The Cochrane Library contains high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making. It includes reliable evidence from Cochrane and other systematic reviews, clinical trials, and more. Cochrane reviews bring you the combined results of the world's best medical research studies, and are recognised as the gold standard in evidence-based health care. (UMDNJ Community access only)
  • DARE: DARE contains summaries of systematic reviews which have met strict quality criteria. Each summary also provides a critical commentary on the quality of the review. The database covers a broad range of health and social care topics and can be used for answering questions about the effects of interventions, as well as for developing guidelines and policy making. (Available to the Public)
  • DynaMed is a medical reference system that uses an evidence-based approach. It is a full-text product that offers clinically organized disease summaries for almost 1800 topics. The product was created by a physician and designed for physicians to use as a clinical reference tool at the point of care. (UMDNJ Community access only)
  • FIRSTConsult is an, evidence-based electronic primary care clinical information system providing specialized diagnostic tools and continuously updated thinking on the latest in evaluation and diagnosis, management options, patient outcomes and prevention at the point and time of a clinical encounter (UMDNJ Community access only)
  • MDConsult - provides searchable, full-text access to over 50 of the world's most important medical journals, a collection of over 40 reference books, more than 1000 clinical practice guidelines, and almost 3,500 customizable patient education handouts. It also includes full-text drug information. (UMDNJ Community access only)
  • MEDLINE (Ovid) Premier source for bibliographic and abstract coverage of the biomedical literature. Includes links to the full-text of the UMDNJ Libraries' electroinc journal collection.
  • PDQ: Physician Data Query: The National Cancer Institute's comprehensive cancer database. It contains peer-reviewed summaries on cancer treatment, screening, prevention, genetics, and supportive care; a registry of approximately 1,800 open and 12,000 closed cancer clinical trials from around the world; and directories of physicians, professionals who provide genetics services, and organizations that provide cancer care. (Available to the Public)
  • PubMed (NLM) PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine, provides access to over 11 million MEDLINE citations back to the mid-1960's and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources. (Available to the public from this link - PubMed)
  • REHABDATA: Produced by the National Rehabilitation Information Center, REHABDATA is the leading literature database on disability and rehabilitation. The database describes over 65,000 documents covering physical, mental, and psychiatric disabilities, independent living, vocational rehabilitation, special education, assistive technology, law, employment, and other issues as they relate to people with disabilities. The collection span 1956 to the present. (Available to the Public)

  • Firstgov for Seniors - will help users access all government sites that provide services for senior citizens, such as SSA, Health Care Financing Administration, the Administration on Aging, the Department of Veterans Affairs, etc. There are also links to all federal agencies and all 50 States.
  • HealthyNJ - Healthcare information for New Jersey consumers, policy makers, and health care professionals
  • HeathyNJ-Aging - Geriatric healthcare information for New Jersey consumers, policy makers, and health care professionals
  • MDConsult - Provides searchable, full-text access to over 50 of the world's most important medical journals, a collection of over 40 reference books, more than 1000 clinical practice guidelines, and almost 3,500 customizable patient education handouts.   • Medicare Rights Center - MRC is the largest independent source of health care information and assistance in the United States for people with Medicare. Founded in 1989, MRC helps older adults and people with disabilities get good, affordable health care.
  • National Institute on Aging-Health Information - Information, resouces, and tips on aging, care giving, medications, dietary supplements, and diseases. Also included on this site is public service ads, clinical trials Information, and links to other governement health resouces. Copies also are provided in PDF format where applicable. Free print versions are available for online ordering.   
  • Health and Wellness Resource Center - A collection of general interest health and fitness magazines, medical and professional periodicals, definitions, and directories. Included are links to diet, cancer, and health assessment sites as well as government databases. Includes some full-text. (UMDNJ Community access only)
  • Seniors Health Topics at MedlinePlus - Information and links to geriatric health resources sites from the National Library of Medicine.

  • Access Medicine - Extensive collection of professional specialty reviews and consumer interest collection, as well as medical calculator. Free download of Mobipocket Reader available for Emedicine materials. (UMDNJ Community access only.)
  • DynaMed - "Just-In-Time" Internet reference integrating evidence based medicine with practical information for clinical practice on more than 1,800 clinical topics. (UMDNJ Community access only.)
  • ePocrates - Suite of popular diagnostic, drug and treatment tools for PDAs as well as web-based access
  • eMedicine -eMedicine presents a collection of monographs that cover 65 professional specialties and three consumer areas, complete with full streaming video, audio, and color images suitable for clinical and teaching purposes. It contains a section of Tools, such as Case of the Week.
  • FirstConsult - Web and PDA based clinical information system that provides continuously updated, evidence-based guidance on the latest in patient evaluation, diagnosis, and management. Designed for rapid access at the point of patient care.
