Venules

 

Examine the venules that accompany the arterioles already observed in the slides above. Compare these vessels with the arterioles with respect to size and composition of their walls.

This is a great slide of a venule (blue arrow)with an accompanying arteriole (orange arrow). Right off the bat you can notice the difference in the wall composition of these two vessels. The arteriole has some smooth muscle associated with it, yet the wall of the venule (white arrows) is relatively bare from cells and very thin. Also notice the lack of rigidity in the structure of the vein compared to the arteriole.
