These
other two types of stratified epithelia, stratified columnar and stratified
cuboidal, are found in few locations in the body. Both have a limited
distribution and may be difficult to locate.

The best example of stratified cuboidal epithelium can be found in the sweat ducts of the dermis of the skin. This epithelium may also occur in the interlobar ducts of the salivary glands (in the transition area between simple cuboidal and stratified columnar zone). With the aid of your atlas (see Gardner, p. 208-209, and p. 214. Fig. 4), locate the sweat ducts deep in the dermis of the skin. The sweat ducts are lined with two layers of cells. The cells adjacent to the lumen have a cuboidal shape, and hence the tissue is stratified cuboidal epithelium. Note that the sweat ducts stain more darkly than the sweat glands.
