What type of epithelium lines the vagina? The superficial epithelium appears vacuolated due to the fact that the intracellular glycogen has been washed out during fixation and staining. Glycogen is most abundant during the follicular of estrogen phase. How would you characterize the connective tissue of the lamina propria? Are there any glands present in the connective tissue?
