Uterus (Proliferative Stage) |

# 180 - Uterus, proliferative, human, h. - e., 1.5 mm, sec # 186 - Myometrium, human uterus, h. - e., 1.5 mm, sec If needed, # 223 - Uterus, rabbit, h.-e., 1.5 mm, sec |

Identify the endometrium and myometrium. Observe the relative height of the endometrial layer. Note the pattern and arrangement of smooth muscle in the myometrium in # 186. Note its richly vascularized middle circular muscle layer, the stratum vasculare. Uterus (myometrium and endometrium) |

Blue arrow - Endometrium Red arrow - Myometrium This is another image of the Uterus, showing the Endometrium (red arrow). To identify what stage of the ovulatory cycle the uterus is in you have to look at the Uterine Glands indicated by the blue arrows. In this image, they are round, small, and not very dense. These are the characteristics of the endometrium during the Follicular or Proliferative phase. Red arrow - Endometrium Blue arrow - Endometrial glands of Follicular phase uterus
Here is another look at another endometrium in the Follicular phase of the ovulatory cycle. Again notice the round, small, and not very numerous characteristic of the the Endometrial glands, (blue arrows) during the follicular phase of the ovulatory cycle.

Here
is a low power image of the two layers that make up the Uterus. The
red arrow is pointing to the muscular layer know as the Myometrium.
It has three layers of muscle: an inner longitudinal, middle circular
and outer longitudiinal. The blue arrow is pointing to the mucosa of
the uterus called the Endometrium. It is here where the Uterine
or Endometrial Glands are located. It is these which will help identify
what stage of the ovulatory cycle the uterus is in by there shape and
numbers.
